“Super-Fibers” is the term used for sources of fiber easily digested by the horse, such as soybean husks, beet pulp, and alfalfa. These fiber sources provide a much higher caloric (energy) intake than “traditional” fiber sources and can provide an energy content often comparable to that of cereals. Using “Super-Fibers” within a diet helps reduce reliance on grains to provide calories (energy) and helps maintain a healthy digestive system. “Super-Fibers” contain less indigestible fiber than oats and wheat and provide a controllable energy release.
Oats are a rich source of beta-glucan, which has been shown to have positive effects on the immune system, glycemic response after eating, and digestive health(Lindinger et al., 2017). Beta-glucan is a source of soluble fiber that acts as a lining for the stomach walls and can help regulate the release of sugars from the digestive system. It has also been shown to support the immune response in performance horses(Paap & Roberti, 2014).
